BDC Image classification

The BDC Image Classification tool has been developed to classify ultrasound, MRI and blood images using high-tech algorithms and processes in machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI).
It offers healthcare professionals, for example, the opportunity to classify images from MRI scans, X-rays or digital platelets into the following categories, for example: infected, healthy or questionable.

In addition to classifying the images, the Image Classification tool makes it possible to extract much more information from the images, such as:
• The disease (Corona, Malaria, Alzheimer).
• The age of the brain, for example
• Tumor detection
• Abnormality in the brain or other body tissues.

Example:

Using a large amount of platelet data, the BDC Image Classification tool has “learned” to recognize Malaria. In a fully automated process, the digital platelets are qualified one by one by the system and it is determined whether there is a Malaria infection.

With sufficient data (from platelets), the BDC Image Classification tool is also able to fully automatically qualify whether there is (or has been) a COVID-19 infection, for example.

The tool also works with normal photos or sound clips. For example, the tool can be used to scan sound signals from space or be used for object recognition in photos.

Batch processing

One of the major advantages of the BDC Image Classification tool is that it helps process, analyze and classify large amounts of images instead of having them manually assessed one by one by experts. In this way, a broader insight is gained into a certain domain / area, such as with regard to COVID-19.

models and algorithms

With the help of the tool, images are converted into numbers, these numbers are used in models and algorithms, the numbers represent the main characteristics of the images (edges, corners, contrast, intensities, etc.). This is then applied to multiple layers and filters using the CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) process to classify the images and perform further analysis.
