University Medical Center Groningen

We are building the future of health, in patient care, scientific research, education and further training.

The University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) is one of the largest hospitals in the Netherlands and is the largest employer in the Northern Netherlands. The more than 12,000 employees work together on care, research, training and education with a common goal: building the future of health.

The UMCG is the only university medical centre in the Northern Netherlands. We offer complex care: patients who need complex examinations and/or treatments, or suffer from a rare disease or multiple conditions, can come to us. In this way, we distinguish ourselves from general hospitals and treat patients who cannot receive this care elsewhere in the region. For some very complex treatments, the UMCG is even the only hospital in the Netherlands.

Our care is based on the latest insights. Safety and quality are paramount, naturally with an eye for the wishes of our patients. For the UMCG, care does not stop at the hospital walls. The UMCG therefore works closely with general practitioners, midwives, home care and many other care institutions.
